Slideshow

In addition to the great feature on the band in today's New York Times Style section, there is a slideshow of photos of us on their website. These really capture the glamorous side of being in a wedding band!

We're in NY Magazine...

We are thrilled and flattered to again be featured in NY Magazine's Weddings Issue. There is a nice description of the band in the magazine's Get With the Band article ("Eleven versatile musical ensembles that will keep the party on the dance floor all night long."), and we're also included again in their preferred vendor list in the back.

Wristielove

There's a nice description of the band on wristielove.blogspot.com, a wedding planning blog. It also features the only known photo of the band eating potato chips:

Name Dropping!

We had the pleasure of playing actress Olivia Wilde's (the O.C., House, Year One) wedding, and she has kindly given us this testimonial about the band. Thanks Olivia!

"I'm thinking of getting married seven or eight times over the next fifty years just so I can hire the Dexter Lake Club Band to send the celebration into a blissful frenzy, like they always do. My favorite moment of our evening was when I glanced around the dance floor and every single family member and friend was bathed in sweat, smiling widely, passionately singing along, and never wanting the band to leave the stage. I can't wait til the next one guys!"

DJ

We've been working with a really excellent DJ recently, as many of our clients have been interested in having one present to complement the live music of the band. He's also a good choice for people with budget limitations or events that simply don't have the physical space for a full band.
DJ Daigoro is based in NYC (not to be confused with the guy based in Italy who uses the same name), spins at places like Joya, Patio, Bogota Latin Bistro, Sin Sin, and has done weddings and private events from NY and Miami to Vermont and Cuba. Like our band, he avoids "phoning it in" with the same boring, tired, wedding/bar mitzvah set that every other DJ plays (i.e. "Celebration", "Hey Ya", etc.), and plays classic funk, soul, reggae, R&B, rock and hip-hop (if desired). Instead, Daigoro works closely with our clients to make sure he plays the memorable music they want and keeps everyone dancing. He travels with over 20,000 songs, and we can provide samples of his sets on CD, references, etc., so please contact dexterlake@gmail.com if interested.

New songs...

We're working on a bunch of new songs for the summer. Some are requests for the weddings we're doing in the coming weeks (Holiday Road (Theme from Vacation)- Lindsay Buckingham), and others are songs we've been selfishly wanting to learn for a while (Separate Ways- Journey, Little Red Corvette- Prince). If you have suggestions, please send them along to dexterlake@gmail.com, thanks...

Reminder: Cancer Gala Thursday Night...

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that we'll be playing a very worthwhile event in Brooklyn this Thursday, which is open to the public. The American Cancer Society is throwing a gala party to raise money to fight cancer, and they have kindly booked the Dexter Lake Club Band to provide the live music. Tickets are pretty expensive, but it's for a noble cause.

Some kind words...

We have dealt with many wedding/event planners over the years, and when we work with somebody who truly has the bride and groom's best interests at heart, we feel obligated to mention them.
Lauren Freeman runs Breathe Events. She's a real pleasure to deal with and a total pro. She made everything easy for us, and helped the bride and groom incorporate the music seamlessly into their evening. She's also a really nice person, and does a great job making sure that the event reflects the client's tastes, rather than just fitting into whatever wedding template makes her life easiest. Lauren recently relocated from DC to Colorado, and I'm not sure if she is still doing events on the East Coast, but anyone looking for a great event planner would be well served by getting in touch with her. Lauren was kind enough to mention us briefly in her event blog (http://breatheevents.blogspot.com/ scroll down to the Nov. 30th, 2008 entry) and the least we can do is return the favor here.

Facebook...

In our quest to have a page on every corner of the interweb, we now have a Facebook page. Nothing too thrilling, but if you want to check it out, it is:
