Wedding Crashers 2012

Wedding Crashers is a wedding fair made up of all sorts of vendors from florists to bands to caterers, and this year it's going to be held at two very cool spaces in Brooklyn, the Green Building (for the fair itself) and the Bell House (after-party at which the bands are playing). We'll have a booth at the Green Building from 11am-4 PM and will be playing a short set at the after-party as well. Details can be found here:

Very pleased to be part of a nice feature on Josh and Shannon's wedding from last August in the new issue of the Knot. They had a fantastic wedding in Brooklyn and we couldn't have had a better time playing for them and their guests. From their flawless song requests (first dance was the Zombies' "This Will Be Our Year") to having our mutual friend Peter Bauer from the Walkmen sit in, it was one of the best weddings we've played. Great piece in the new Martha Stewart Weddings about a wedding we did last Fall in Jamestown, VA. Quinn and Dana were two of the nicest people we've ever dealt with and they assembled a virtual dream team of vendors with Alison Events. It was one of the most unique venues and also one of the most absurdly good parties we've ever played. We think this photo says it all, but you can check out photos and details here.

People often ask us if we travel to do weddings outside of the NYC area. The answer is that we do it all the time and last summer the band had a great trip to Nantucket to play for Maggie and Sean's beautiful and memorable wedding. Brides Magazine was there to shoot the whole event and we are pleased that they included the band in their coverage (scroll down for photos).

We're going to be playing a few very short sets at an event being held in Brooklyn on Feb. 27th.
Described as "the Brooklyn wedding fair for couples seeking a one-of-a-kind, inspired wedding" Wedding Crashers is being held at the Bell House, between Park Slope and Carroll Gardens. We'll be playing, along with some other bands and DJ's, and there will be a ton of photographers, caterers, gown designers, etc. to check out while you're there. Diamond Dash- Michael C. Fina and the DLCB

We've been asked to provide the musical entertainment at this year's Diamond Dash, which is happening Saturday, Sept. 25th, beginning at 9 AM. The Diamond Dash is a wedding-themed scavenger hunt, sponsored by Michael C. Fina, in which couples compete to win prizes ranging from a free honeymoon to a $20,000.00 diamond engagement ring. Best of all, the proceeds all go to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for Cancer Research. Princeton may be known as a one of the best schools in the country, and they were clearly smart enough to spare no expense in bringing in Whitesnake's smoke and lights show for the night. A friend of ours has started a really fantastic company, Four Branches, which offers handmade, personalized chuppah's. Traci Kaye is an acclaimed fashion designer and she is now lending her great taste and attention to detail to chuppahs and wedding canopies of all kinds. Long Weekend...

The band just finished a whirlwind weekend of gigs. We started off Friday night playing at the fabled Princeton reunion (see this month's issue of GQ), and rocked it until well after 2 AM with a great, enthusiastic crowd.

We then flew out to Pittsburgh for a very memorable wedding that was held at the Carnegie Museum (great dinosaur exhibit). Thanks to Lara and Michael for having us and congratulations!

Finally, we returned to our home base of NYC on Monday morning and headlined the annual Memorial Day concert at South Street Seaport. Thanks to Chris Amundson and everyone at the Seaport for having us, and to everyone who came out to see the band (and stayed to dance and hang out despite the rain). There are a few pictures of that performance above.

One of our favorite places in NYC to play is the Angel Orensanz Foundation downtown. It's one of the most unique venues in town, and the staff are great people to work with as well.

We've been working with a really excellent DJ recently, as many of our clients have been interested in having one present to complement the live music of the band. He's also a good choice for people with budget limitations or events that simply don't have the physical space for a full band.
DJ Daigoro is based in NYC (not to be confused with the guy based in Italy who uses the same name), spins at places like Joya, Patio, Bogota Latin Bistro, Sin Sin, and has done weddings and private events from NY and Miami to Vermont and Cuba. Like our band, he avoids "phoning it in" with the same boring, tired, wedding/bar mitzvah set that every other DJ plays (i.e. "Celebration", "Hey Ya", etc.), and plays classic funk, soul, reggae, R&B, rock and hip-hop (if desired). Instead, Daigoro works closely with our clients to make sure he plays the memorable music they want and keeps everyone dancing. He travels with over 20,000 songs, and we can provide samples of his sets on CD, references, etc., so please contact dexterlake@gmail.com if interested.

We have dealt with many wedding/event planners over the years, and when we work with somebody who truly has the bride and groom's best interests at heart, we feel obligated to mention them.
Lauren Freeman runs Breathe Events. She's a real pleasure to deal with and a total pro. She made everything easy for us, and helped the bride and groom incorporate the music seamlessly into their evening. She's also a really nice person, and does a great job making sure that the event reflects the client's tastes, rather than just fitting into whatever wedding template makes her life easiest. Lauren recently relocated from DC to Colorado, and I'm not sure if she is still doing events on the East Coast, but anyone looking for a great event planner would be well served by getting in touch with her. Lauren was kind enough to mention us briefly in her event blog (http://breatheevents.blogspot.com/ scroll down to the Nov. 30th, 2008 entry) and the least we can do is return the favor here.
